Rajkot: A 28-year-old woman living in the Navagam area of the city allegedly hanged her daughters and then herself on Thursday.Her husband told police that “she had wanted a son and, in the desire for a son, she took this step”.
Police are verifying his statement and will investigate all angles.The deceased were identified as Asmita Solanki (28) and her daughters Priyanshi (8) and Harshita (5). The three were found hanged inside their home by the woman’s husband, Jayesh, at about 9pm when he returned home.
Police conducted forensic postmortems. According to sources, the initial findings suggest Asmita may have first hanged her daughters with a nylon rope before using a dupatta to kill herself.Inspector Sudhir Rane of B Division police station, said, “Jayesh told us their marriage was stable and that they had no financial or family troubles.
According to him, Asmita was distressed because ‘she was unable to conceive a son’. She was seeing a doctor in the Bajrangwadi area for check-ups, hoping to have a son. We will record the doctor’s statement to verify this claim.”The couple had been married for 10 years. Jayesh, a rickshaw driver, had left the home at 3pm on Thursday and returned around 9pm.
Investigators seized the dupatta, rope, hook and Asmita’s mobile phone. The call records of both Asmita and Jayesh will be examined and her phone will be checked for any other relevant information.Investigators have recorded preliminary statements from Asmita’s family, who have not expressed suspicion about anyone. Police have registered an accidental death case.
